New Delhi, Feb 21: Security agencies have sounded an alert in the national capital following intelligence inputs about a possible terror plot by the Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba targeting temples and crowded areas near the Red Fort, sources said.
According to inputs received by security agencies, the group is suspected to be planning attacks using improvised explosive devices, with religious places in parts of Old Delhi considered potential targets. Authorities have increased surveillance and deployed additional personnel in sensitive areas as a precautionary measure.
Sources indicated that temples in the Chandni Chowk area and other prominent religious sites could be on the radar, prompting heightened vigilance not only in Delhi but also in other cities. Security checks have been intensified at key locations and public areas as part of preventive measures.
Police and intelligence agencies are monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with local authorities to ensure preparedness. Officials said security arrangements have been strengthened around important installations and religious sites following the alert.
The alert comes amid continued concerns over possible terror threats to high-profile locations in the capital, with agencies maintaining a high level of vigilance.
