PANAJI: BJP Leader Alinha Saldanha today has resigned as an MLA. With this, the strength of the house has been reduced to 35.
Sources claim that Alina Saldanha is expected to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) soon. She is the fifth MLA to resign and the first MLA from the ruling BJP.
“I have resigned and for valid reasons, because the party that led had joined is no longer the same party. The party seems to have forgotten all the principals; nobody knows who is coming into the party and who is going out,” said Saldanha speaking to the media after resigning as MLA.
She further informed that she would consult her supporters and well-wishers before deciding.
“Many parties are in touch with me, but I have not yet decided what party to join; when I am ready, I will inform all. I will not take such a hasty decision. I will consult all my supporters before taking any decision,” she added.
Alina informed that she will contest the upcoming Goa Assembly Elections in 2022 but had not decided on which party ticket.
She also said that her stand on double-tracking has not changed yet, and the government is not concerned.
“If my husband, late Mathany Saldanha, was alive, he would be fasting somewhere fighting for the people of this state and would not budge down in any manner. I have also resigned from the primary membership of the BJP,” she added.
Meanwhile, Alina said that her commitment towards the cause of opposing doubling of railway track won’t be compromised at any point in time and that she was with the people in the south who are most affected by the project.
Sources have claimed that Alina resigned from BJP to join AAP after speculations that BJP may not give her a ticket this time.
