PANAJI: Panaji Police have arrested two more suspects in the violent Caranzalem assault case, completing the arrest of all seven accused involved in the attack on Rama Kankonkar.
The two arrested on Friday evening have been identified as Franco D’costa (28), resident of St. Cruz, who was riding the bike of co-accused Anthony Nadar, and Sairaj Govekar (28), resident of Pilerne, Bardez, a history-sheeter who was present with his Fascino scooter at the scene.
Franco was arrested in St. Cruz, while Govekar was apprehended near Mapusa market.
Police said the five accused arrested earlier were remanded to five days’ police custody by the court, while efforts are ongoing to recover the two-wheelers, mobile phones and weapon of offence used during the assault.
The case relates to an incident on September 18, 2025, when complainant Soiru Velip (45), resident of Quepem, reported that at around 12:55 pm near Y-junction, Sateri Restaurant, Caranzalem, six men allegedly conspired to wrongfully restrain and attack Rama Kankonkar with deadly weapons. The accused also allegedly threatened Velip with a knife.
Panaji Police registered Crime No. 125/2025 under Sections 126(2), 109, 351(3) read with 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
