DABOLIM: The All Goa Garba and Dandiya Competition 2024 commenced on Thursday night with great excitement and participation from across the state. The event was inaugurated by Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho, who also performed a pooja of Durga Devi ahead of the ceremony. Organized by Ascharya Cultural and Sports Club, this event marks a nine-day celebration in honor of Durga Devi.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Godinho shared his long-standing association with the event. “This is a nine-day celebration of Durga Devi that has been happening for 18 years, and I have been a part of this event for the last 13 years. It signifies our commitment to supporting and contributing to all festivals, irrespective of religion,” said Godinho. He also emphasized the spirit of unity and cultural participation that the event embodies, especially with the involvement of the youth.
The competition, touted as the largest Dandiya competition in Goa, is held annually in New Vaddem and sees participation from various groups across the state. After the inauguration, Godinho joined the participants, dancing to the beats of traditional Dandiya music, further adding to the joyous atmosphere.
The competition offers attractive prizes, with the first prize set at Rs 50,000 plus a trophy, the second prize at Rs 30,000 plus a trophy, and the third prize at Rs 20,000 plus a trophy. Additionally, five spot prizes will be awarded during every local round of the event, encouraging vibrant participation from all.
As the festival unfolds over the next nine days, the enthusiasm and energy around the Garba and Dandiya celebrations are expected to grow, reflecting Goa’s rich cultural diversity and unity.
