Canacona: In response to growing concerns over the government’s decision to include Canacona in the proposed third district of Goa, an all-party meeting has been convened in the taluka to deliberate the implications for local residents.
The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, July 29 at 4:00 pm at the Shristhal Panchayat Hall, aims to bring together political leaders and stakeholders to exchange views on the district reorganisation. The government has announced the formation of a new district comprising the talukas of Dharbandora, Sanguem, Quepem, and Canacona, with Curchorem designated as the district headquarters.
This move has sparked discontent in Canacona, where there had been earlier demands for the taluka to remain part of the South Goa district due to geographical proximity and administrative convenience. Some also argued that if inclusion in the third district was unavoidable, the district headquarters should be located in Canacona itself.
Goa Forward Party General Secretary Prashant Naik has urged all party leaders and workers in the taluka to attend the meeting, underlining the need for a united stand on an issue that affects the region’s accessibility and governance.
The discussion comes at a critical juncture, as the decision on the final name and headquarters of the third district is expected to be announced soon by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
