PANAJI: Panaji MLA and Revenue Minister Babush Monserrate today said that Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) are currently in process of identifying all buildings in Panaji city which are structurally weak and on verge of collapse.
“We are identifying all buildings in Panaji jurisdiction which are structurally weak & on verge of collapse; once identified CCP will move the file to N.Goa Coll to declare these buildings unsafe,” said Min Babush
More than ten years ago, (CCP) declared several structures in the capital city to be hazardous and scheduled their demolition. But for reasons best known to the city fathers, the CCP has not yet moved to destroy them.
The public at large, pedestrians, and most importantly, the tiny stall owners and sellers in the Panjim market area are all at risk from the unsafe city buildings.
Every day, individuals are put in danger by two of the designated buildings since they are situated right in the middle of the market.
One is a three-story commercial structure that overlooks several tiny market stalls and houses the National Guest House. Every day, the booth owners and their patrons face a threat.
CCP had earlier invited online bids from private agencies to carry out ward-wise door-to-door survey in the capital city to identify the government buildings for assessment of consolidated property tax.
The scope of work included detailed door-to-door survey for identifying the government buildings with the help of secondary data on various government buildings available with the corporation, verifying and finalising the existing land-use zone of the respective government buildings, data validation and reconciliation exercise with the old property data and calculation of taxes.
