New Delhi: Veteran India leg-spinner Amit Mishra has announced his retirement from all forms of professional cricket, ending a career that spanned over 25 years. Mishra, known for his sharp variations and control, represented India in 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20Is, claiming 156 international wickets.
Debuting in 2003, Mishra’s highlights include a five-wicket haul on Test debut against Australia, equalling Javagal Srinath’s world record of 18 wickets in an ODI series in Zimbabwe (2013), and a memorable 2014 T20 World Cup campaign. In the IPL, he stands as the seventh-highest wicket-taker with 174 scalps and remains the only bowler with three hat-tricks.
Mishra played his final professional match in IPL 2024 for Lucknow Super Giants. Thanking the BCCI, Haryana Cricket Association, teammates, and fans, he said cricket had given him “countless memories and invaluable learnings.” Going forward, Mishra plans to stay connected to the game through coaching, commentary, and mentoring young cricketers.
