PANAJI: Nearly four months after stepping down from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), former Goa unit chief Amit Palekar is poised to join the Indian National Congress on Friday, April 10.
A senior Congress functionary confirmed that Palekar will officially be inducted into the party in the presence of AICC Goa desk in-charge Manikrao Thakre. Party insiders suggest that he is likely to be projected as the Congress candidate from the St Cruz constituency for the 2027 Assembly elections.
Palekar, a lawyer by profession who later entered politics, was appointed as the president of AAP’s Goa unit in May 2022. However, after the party’s underwhelming performance in the Zilla Panchayat polls held in December, he was removed from the leadership role.
In January, Palekar, along with then acting Goa AAP president Shrikrishna Parab, formally resigned from the party, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
