New Delhi: Amid concerns over the impact of the 50% US tariff on Indian exports, former G20 Sherpa and NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has urged India to see the move as a strategic opening rather than a setback.
Calling it a “once in a generation opportunity,” Kant said the challenge posed by the steep tariff hike should be fully utilised to push bold economic reforms. “Trump has provided us a once in a generation opportunity to take the next big leap on reforms. Crisis must be fully utilised,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Kant’s remarks come at a time when many fear the tariff could hurt key Indian sectors, but he believes the situation offers a chance to strengthen domestic competitiveness and drive transformative policy action.
