VASCO: A minor ammonia leakage was reported at berth no 8 in the Mormugao Port Authority on Tuesday morning.
The news caused panic, and fire tenders from different locations were immediately pressed into service.
However, even as steps were taken immediately and fire fighting process began, the leakage was brought under control, and the discharge from the ship was stopped immediately
When contacted, Vasco fire incharge said that they got a call at around 12.10 pm that an ammonia leakage was reported from a ship, St Oslo, docked at Berth no 8 in MPA.
“We immediately rushed to the site; we saw two fire tenders from Zuari Agro and MPA were already on standby. I was informed that there was a minor leakage while unloading ammonia cargo from the ship,” he said.
He said the discharge was, however, stopped, and leakage was controlled.
“We have been told that they will call us in case of any requirement, and the leakage has been controlled “, said Bicholkar.
