Bicholim: Villagers from Amona and Navelim in Bicholim taluka have strongly opposed the expansion project of a mining company claiming to be a polluting unit.
The public hearing of which has been scheduled at Navelim village on 24th January from 10.30 am to 7.00 pm.
Adressing a press conference at Bicholim the villagers told that the expansion project of a mining company will led to the devastation of nearly 30 villages situated in this and surrounding areas due to which around 2 lakhs people will be suffered as far as health related issues are concerned.
They have therefore demanded that the public hearing on this matter should be totally cancelled at any cost as they are against this project.
Former Pale MLA Pratap Gawas and Congress leader Nilkanth Gawas questioned, how the Goa Pollution Control Board has approved the project.
Former Sanquelim sarpanch Pravin Blagen questioned as to how this can be said as the public hearing when only 100 people will be invited for this.
Khemlo Sawant told that the government wants to produce milk, but these projects are polluting and degrading the agricultural environment, then how it will be benificial to dairy farmers.
Villagers have organised a special meeting on 10th January at Vividha hall Navelim to discuss over this issue. They have called upon people to participate in large number.
