New Delhi: Andhra Under-23 Women’s Cricket Team secured a dominant nine wicket victory over Goa Under-23 Women’s Cricket Team in the Under 23 Women’s Elite One Day Tournament, successfully chasing a modest target of 139 runs in just 28 overs. The match was played at the Maharana Pratap College Ground in Dehradun.
After being put in to bat, Goa struggled to build early momentum. Openers Harshita Yadav and Urvashi Govekar were dismissed cheaply, leaving the side under pressure. Captain Tanaya Naik and wicketkeeper Tanisha Gaikwad then stabilised the innings with a crucial 75 run partnership for the third wicket.
Tanaya played a steady knock of 34 runs from 64 deliveries with four boundaries, while Tanisha Gaikwad top scored with a patient 47 off 77 balls that included seven fours. Their partnership helped Goa recover from the early setbacks and briefly steadied the innings.
However, Goa’s progress stalled soon after both batters were dismissed. The middle and lower order failed to capitalise on the foundation, with several quick wickets halting the team’s momentum. Presha Naik, Swarali Kasar, Palak Arondekar, Pooja Kalel and Metali Gawandar all fell for low scores, and the side was eventually bowled out for 138 in 43.2 overs.
Andhra’s bowling attack was led by Vishnu Priya, who delivered an impressive spell of four wickets for 27 runs in her ten overs. B. Anusha also played an important role, finishing with figures of two wickets for 12 runs.
In reply, Andhra approached the chase with confidence. Opener G. Udvitha scored a fluent 57 from 64 balls and shared a commanding 104 run opening partnership with K. Mahanthi Sree. After Udvitha’s dismissal, Mahanthi Sree remained unbeaten on 62 and, along with Setu Sai who scored an unbeaten 11, guided the team to victory.
Harshita Yadav claimed the only wicket for Goa. Goa will now aim to recover in their final league match against Delhi Under-23 Women’s Cricket Team scheduled for March 11.
