New Delhi: Goa’s Dr Ankush Patil delivered an authoritative performance to book his place in two finals at the All India Doctors Badminton Tournament, currently underway at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium. Displaying sharp court coverage and attacking precision, he secured straight game victories in both the Men’s Singles and the 35 plus category semifinals.
In the Men’s Singles semifinal, Dr Patil defeated Dr Ibraheem Saleem 21 to 18, 21 to 15. He followed it up with another clinical win in the 35 plus section, overcoming Dr Viraj 21 to 19, 21 to 11 to confirm his spot in the title clash.
Goa’s Dr Felix Dias also advanced to the final in the 60 plus category. He outplayed Dr Hemant Sathe 21 to 10, 21 to 15 in a commanding semifinal display.
Other semifinal matches witnessed competitive encounters across divisions. In the Men’s Singles, Dr Abhiram got the better of Dr Gautham 24 to 22, 21 to 8. In the 35 plus category, Dr Ketan Sinha registered a convincing 21 to 12, 21 to 12 win over Dr Anirudh Dinesh. The 50 plus section saw dominant performances from Dr Budi Prakash Murty and Dr Sudesh Tiwari, who won their matches comfortably. In the 60 plus semifinals, Dr Dnyaneshwar Shinde defeated Goa’s Dr Satish Kudchadkar in straight games.
The Men’s Doubles semifinals featured close contests, with Dr Anirudh Dinesh and Dr Ibraheem Saleem edging past Dr Akhilesh and Dr Rakshit KV in two tight games. Dr Vikyath Narayan and Dr Vikas also progressed with a straight game victory. In the 35 plus doubles, Dr Dhaval Fadadu and Dr Rohan advanced after a hard fought win, while Dr Abhishek Verma and Dr Abhishek Chauhan moved into the final following a walkover.
Earlier, Goa’s Dr Mihir Desai exited in the 35 plus singles quarterfinals and later bowed out in the doubles event. The tournament, organised by Mighty Sports with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, was inaugurated in the presence of leading medical professionals and sports officials.
