New Delhi: Gangster Anmol Bishnoi, wanted in the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique, has been placed in the custody of the National Investigation Agency for 11 days following his arrest earlier on Wednesday. The order was issued by Delhi’s Patiala House Court after the agency sought time to question him on activities linked to the Bishnoi crime network.
During the hearing, the NIA outlined Bishnoi’s suspected role within the syndicate led by his incarcerated brother, Lawrence Bishnoi. Investigators described him as a key figure who had been on the run since 2022. He is the nineteenth person to be arrested as part of the wider probe into the terror-gangster nexus linked to the group.
The court noted that the agency had presented reasonable grounds for remand and listed specific areas requiring detailed interrogation. Investigators said that custodial questioning is vital to uncover the network’s operational structure, identify members and uncover sources of funding used for alleged criminal and terror-linked activities. The agency also plans to examine any digital accounts purportedly used to claim responsibility for attacks associated with the group.
According to the order, the NIA must question Bishnoi on his alleged involvement in the conspiracy, the methods used by the syndicate and any evidence connecting him to the organisation. His disclosures could help trace additional individuals involved in the operations. The court also directed that he undergo medical checks every 48 hours and that his movements between the court and custody be video recorded. Authorities have been instructed to ensure proper security throughout the remand period.
Earlier in the day, Bishnoi was flown back to India from the United States and handed over to the NIA upon arrival in Delhi. He is wanted in multiple states, with 31 cases registered against him in Rajasthan, Punjab and Maharashtra. Investigators recently learned that he had been detained abroad and was reportedly in possession of a forged Russian passport while frequently travelling between the United States and Canada.
