MARGAO: The Office of the Collector & District Magistrate, South Goa, has constituted Bullfight Monitoring Committees across key talukas in response to directives issued in Writ Petition No. 347 of 1996 and Contempt Petition No. 10/2021 on the Prohibition of Bull Fighting/Dhirio in Goa.
The committees comprise the respective Mamlatdar, Police Inspector, a designated Veterinary Officer, and local representatives in charge of handling bulls. These teams are tasked with monitoring, coordination, and rapid response in the event of any reported or ongoing bullfight incidents in their jurisdiction.
The talukas covered include Margao, Curtorim, Colva, Fatorda, and Cuncolim, among others. Each area has designated officers and veterinary personnel with contact details to facilitate immediate action. The District Magistrate emphasized maintaining constant readiness and effective coordination, especially in identified vulnerable zones.
In a directive signed by South Goa Collector (IAS) Egna Cleetus, all concerned officers have been urged to ensure timely cooperation and to remain alert to prevent any illegal bullfighting activities. The committees have been asked to operate in close communication, particularly in the absence of any committee member, to ensure seamless functioning.
Copies of the order have been forwarded to police authorities, local Mamlatdars, veterinary departments, and other stakeholders.
