New Delhi: Security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir have stepped up action against individuals accused of operating anti-national networks from across the border, with police attaching immovable properties belonging to seven men from Kathua district who are currently based in Pakistan.
The action was carried out on Friday following directions issued by a special court in connection with cases registered at the Malhar police station. Officials said the attached assets include more than 10 kanals of land located in the Lohai Malhar area of Kathua. The properties are estimated to be worth several crores of rupees and were seized after completing all mandatory legal procedures.
According to the police, proclamations had earlier been issued against the accused after they failed to appear before investigative authorities. Despite repeated notices, the individuals continued to evade the law while staying in Pakistan, prompting the court to authorise the attachment of their assets under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
With assistance from the revenue department, police teams identified and formally seized the properties, ensuring that the process complied with all statutory requirements. Officials said such measures are aimed at dismantling financial and logistical support networks linked to anti-national activities and sending a strong message to those attempting to undermine security from abroad.
The seven individuals whose properties have been attached are residents of Tehsil Lohai Malhar in Kathua district. They have been identified as Mohd Ayaz, also known as Adeel Ansari, Abdul Kareem alias Bitta, Sarfraz Nawaz alias Nawaz Ahmad, Mohd Farooq alias Farooq Ahmed, Mohd Hafeez, Gul Mohammad, and Akhter Ali, also known as Niku.
Police officials said investigations against the accused remain ongoing and further legal action will follow based on evidence gathered. The authorities reiterated their commitment to taking firm steps against individuals involved in activities that threaten national security, particularly those operating from outside the country while maintaining assets within Indian territory.
The attachment of properties is part of a broader strategy being pursued by security agencies in the region to curb cross-border terror support mechanisms and prevent misuse of local resources for unlawful activities.
