New Delhi: Anupama Ramachandran has etched her name in sporting history by becoming the first Indian woman to win the IBSF World Snooker (15-red) Championship. The 23-year-old from Chennai defeated Hong Kong’s Ng On Yee 3-2 in a gripping final that kept viewers on the edge until the last shot.
The contest swung sharply between the two players, with both displaying precision and composure under pressure. In the deciding frame, Anupama found herself trailing as the three-time world champion closed in on victory. However, Ng On Yee narrowly missed the final black while leading 61-60, creating a rare opening. Anupama seized the moment calmly, potting the black to seal a historic win and bring home India’s maiden women’s world snooker title.
The triumph marks a milestone not only in her personal career but also for Indian cue sports, setting a new benchmark for women athletes in the discipline.
