Margao: The Inspector General of Societies (South), Margao, has dismissed an appeal challenging the elections of the Urfan Mulla–led Managing Committee of Sunni Jamatul Muslameen, Malbhat, Margao, and upheld the poll results as valid and legal.
In an order dated January 8, 2026, Inspector General of Societies (South) Suraj R. Vernekar rejected the application filed by Abdul Gani Bepari, who had sought to declare the elections held on June 15, 2023, as null and void. The appellant had alleged violations of society rules, improper constitution of the election committee, lack of due notice, and manipulation of the election process.
After examining the records and submissions placed on record, the authority ruled that the elections were conducted strictly in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations. The order further stated that all actions taken and decisions made by the respondents pursuant to the said elections stand validated.
With the dismissal of the appeal, the Managing Committee elected on June 15, 2023, will continue in office, effectively bringing to an end the dispute surrounding the society’s election process.
