Benaulim: ABC Sports Club Arambol booked their place in the finals of the 46th Cana Benaulim Soccer Championship with a dominant 3-0 win over a spirited Augustas SC Pomburpa in the second semifinal held at the Benaulim Panchayat ground.
The much-anticipated clash lived up to expectations, featuring intense play and determined efforts from both sides. Arambol set the tone early with their attacking intent, keeping the Pomburpa defence on their toes throughout the opening half. Their persistence paid off just before halftime when Pranesh broke the deadlock with a composed finish, giving Arambol a crucial 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Pomburpa responded aggressively in the second half, searching for an equaliser through the efforts of Raju Padashi and Anford Fernandes, who led a series of promising moves. However, Arambol’s defence, marshalled by Sanford and Vivek, stood tall, while goalkeeper Deitmar Fernandes came up with several vital saves to keep their clean sheet intact.
The game tilted firmly in Arambol’s favour when Cupriano was brought down in the penalty area. He calmly stepped up and slotted home the spot-kick to make it 2-0. Moments later, Myson Britto added a third, converting another penalty in the 53rd minute to seal a convincing win.
With Cupriano and Myson leading the charge upfront and a disciplined defensive unit at the back, Arambol now head into Sunday’s grand finale with confidence and momentum on their side, ready to battle for the coveted title.
