PANAJI: In a heart-pounding match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats, Arlem Youth Association emerged victorious with a 3-2 win over Dicarpali Sports Club in the Simon Barreto Memorial inter-village football tournament. This intense encounter, organized by Maina Sports Club and held at the Dysa ground in Curtorim, saw Arlem Youth Association advance to the quarterfinals, thanks in large part to Sanjiro Pango’s decisive brace.
The match, played on Wednesday, was a testament to the competitive spirit of both teams. From the outset, Arlem Youth Association dominated the game, with Sanjiro Pango and Garrison Fernandes scoring crucial goals in the 5th and 18th minutes, respectively. This early lead gave Arlem a significant advantage, with the team maintaining a 2-0 lead at halftime.
However, Dicarpali Sports Club refused to back down. In the second half, Donald Rocha of Dicarpali Sports Club scored two quick goals in the 33rd and 35th minutes, leveling the score and injecting new life into the match. Despite several missed scoring opportunities and intense counterattacks from both sides, the game hung in the balance.
The turning point came in the 58th minute when Sanjiro Pango scored his second goal, securing the win for Arlem Youth Association. This match-winning goal underscored Pango’s pivotal role in the victory. Although Dicarpali Sports Club’s Donald Rocha was awarded the Man of the Match for his two goals, it was Pango’s brace that ultimately decided the outcome.
The tournament, which continues to showcase the talent and determination of local football teams, is set to deliver more thrilling matches as it progresses.
