Raia: Hosts Arlem Youth Association (AYA) booked their spot in the quarterfinals of the 33rd Arlem Rolling Trophy Inter-Village Football Tournament with a thrilling 3-2 win over CAC Cansaulim in a match played at the Raia Panchayat ground.
The game kicked off at a frenetic pace, and it was CAC Cansaulim who drew first blood in the 7th minute through Agnelo D’Souza, who calmly slotted the ball into the far corner. Arlem Youth responded in the 21st minute with an equaliser from Velroy Borges. Just six minutes later, Sweden Barbosa gave AYA the lead, making it 2-1 going into halftime.
After the break, Cansaulim increased the pressure and were awarded a penalty, but Agnelo D’Souza’s effort was brilliantly saved by the AYA goalkeeper, keeping the hosts in front. Arlem then extended their lead in the 40th minute when Roy Colaco found the back of the net, giving them a two-goal cushion.
Cansaulim managed to pull one back through Rio Rodrigues following a defensive lapse, but it wasn’t enough as Arlem held on for a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
Velroy Borges of Arlem Youth Association was named Man of the Match for his impactful performance, receiving the award from Jerome Colaco, President of Arlem Youth Association.
