New Delhi: Security forces successfully foiled an infiltration attempt in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, resulting in the death of a Pakistani terrorist during an overnight operation.
The joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police during the intervening night of March 14 and 15 in the Buchhar area of the Uri sector. The action followed specific intelligence inputs indicating a possible infiltration attempt across the Line of Control.
Troops deployed in the area detected suspicious movement in dense vegetation and immediately adjusted their ambush positions to intercept the intruder. When challenged by the security personnel, the militant reportedly opened indiscriminate fire, prompting a swift response from the forces.
During the exchange, the infiltrating terrorist was neutralised. Security personnel later recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition from the site. The seized materials included an AK rifle, pistols and a significant quantity of ammunition, indicating the infiltrator was heavily armed.
Authorities said surveillance and security measures in the region have been further intensified following the incident. Additional troops have been deployed while monitoring operations are being supported by both ground units and aerial surveillance to ensure the safety of civilians in the area.
The operation in Uri comes shortly after another infiltration attempt was foiled earlier this month along the Line of Control in the Bhimber Gali area of Rajouri district. Security forces had detected suspicious movement during early morning patrols and later recovered arms and ammunition from the site.
In another similar incident on February 19 and 20, the army intercepted terrorists attempting to infiltrate the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri. The operation also led to the seizure of weapons and ammunition.
Security forces continue to maintain heightened vigilance along the border areas to prevent infiltration attempts and safeguard the region.
