New Delhi: Western Command Chief Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar has reaffirmed that the Indian Army cannot afford any dilution in its preparedness as security challenges from both China and Pakistan remain constant. Addressing the media in Fatehgarh, Uttar Pradesh, he stressed that maintaining peak operational readiness is essential for safeguarding national interests.
He noted that the Army’s foremost priority is to ensure that no gaps emerge in its defensive posture. According to him, the country’s northern and western borders demand equal attention, and the forces must stay alert at all times. He added that as the Army strengthens its capabilities through modernisation and training, it must also uphold the core principles that define the institution.
He emphasised the importance of preserving the military’s apolitical and secular character, calling these values fundamental to the ethos of the armed forces. He stated that discipline, neutrality, and professionalism are integral to maintaining the Army’s credibility and operational effectiveness.
Referring to recent hostilities from Pakistan, Lieutenant General Katiyar said the Army delivered a firm response. He pointed out that attempts to carry out terror-linked activities were met with decisive action, referencing Operation Sindoor as an example of the Army’s readiness to counter threats effectively.
While acknowledging the persistent challenges on the western border, he cautioned that the situation along the northern frontier also requires constant monitoring. He said vigilance along the Line of Actual Control remains crucial and that the Army continues to maintain strong deployment and preparedness in the region.
He concluded by stating that India’s security environment demands a consistent and proactive approach. With threats evolving on multiple fronts, the armed forces, he said, must remain steadfast in their commitment to readiness, discipline, and national security.
