VALPOI: Almost 150 cattle died due to a sudden rise in water levels at Nanus Gaushala.
The water level rose sharply at midnight on Thursday and early Friday morning.
Hanumant Parab, chairman of the Gaushala Management Committee, said that the unfortunate incident occurred as the water inundated Gaushala.
Locals say this has resulted in a loss of about Rs 15 lakh.
Villagers said that some cows were tied and hence could not save themselves.
Parab said that the incident took place on Thursday night and Friday morning due to a sudden water inflow. He feared that about 50 cattle died in the cowshed, and about 100 cattle would be swept away by the floods.
Earlier, a veterinary officer had issued a panchnama in this regard. After that, the matter was disposed of, Hanumant Parab clarified.
A large quantity of fodder has also been damaged along with cattle.
