Mumbai: Teen batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued his dream run in the Youth ODI series against South Africa Under-19, producing another breathtaking performance that drew high praise from former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin.
The 14-year-old smashed a scintillating 127 off just 73 deliveries in the third and final Youth ODI at Benoni, becoming the youngest captain to score a century in the format. His innings powered India Under-19 to a massive 393 for 7 in 50 overs, laying the foundation for a one-sided contest.
Opening the innings, Suryavanshi dominated the South African bowling attack with fearless strokeplay and clean hitting. India then completed a comprehensive performance by bowling out South Africa Under-19 for 160, registering a thumping 233-run victory and completing a clean sweep of the three-match series.
Impressed by the teenager’s consistency and confidence, Ashwin took to social media to express his admiration. The veteran spinner listed Suryavanshi’s recent run of big scores and admitted that the youngster’s numbers were difficult to put into words, joking that the young batter seems to be scoring runs for fun.
Ashwin also pointed out that the coming months will be crucial for Suryavanshi, with the Under-19 World Cup around the corner and his maiden full season in the IPL set to follow. The former India star suggested that all eyes will be on how the young sensation handles growing expectations.
