FATORDA: Goa Forward Chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai today said that every citizen’s collective responsibility is to build a state where the aspirations and well-being of every Goan are prioritised.
“We celebrate our statehood as a significant milestone in our history, remembering the great leaders who fought tirelessly to establish Goa as the 25th state of India. While we celebrate Liberation Day to commemorate Goa’s freedom from colonialism, on Statehood Day, we celebrate winning our freedom to choose our destiny,” said Sardesai.
He further said that on this occasion, it is important that we reflect on the values and ideals that define the state we desire to live in.
“We envision a state where peace and harmony always prevail, where every Goan upholds our unique identity, our language, food, and culture. A state where equal opportunities for education and personal growth are available to all, ensuring a brighter future for every individual,” he added.
Sardesai said that we must endeavour to build a Goa where clean air, pure water, and pristine green spaces are accessible, and our rivers and forests are preserved and protected.
“Statehood has also given us the power to choose a government that is expected to faithfully represent the will of the Goan people. We also hold the power to allow local bodies to have their say in shaping our collective future.
The Fatorda MLA said that their right to choose our destiny as a state within this great nation, as guaranteed by the Indian Constitution, remains paramount, and we must unite to protect and preserve this right from any infringement.
“As we commemorate our statehood, let us join hands and work together to safeguard the values and ideals that make Goa a cherished part of our national fabric,” he said.
