ASSAGAO: The Assagao Comunidade has resolved to challenge the government’s proposal to regularise illegal structures on its land, announcing plans to approach the High Court to seek relief.
The decision was taken at a recently held general body meeting, attended by around 40 members, where the matter of unauthorised constructions in Assagao and Badem was discussed in detail.
Members unanimously rejected the idea of allowing encroachers to legitimise such constructions, warning that it would only encourage further violations in the future.
Comunidade attorney Nelson Fernandes confirmed that the body has agreed to file a petition before the High Court opposing the move, reiterating that protecting Comunidade land from encroachment is its foremost priority.
