MAPUSA: A 43-year-old man from Assam has been taken into custody for allegedly murdering a fellow porter following a dispute over food at Bodgininim in Mapusa.
Police reported that the accused, Sawangkhoba Chaoba Singh, and the victim—who has not yet been identified—were both working as porters and living on the streets.
The incident occurred on March 27, when Singh, the victim, and another individual were sharing a meal and drinking alcohol in a field. During dinner, Singh noticed his plate had less chicken than expected, triggering an argument. The disagreement quickly escalated into violence when Singh broke a beer bottle and attacked the victim.
The victim suffered severe injuries to his face and ear, reportedly losing one ear in the assault. Singh and the third person then fled the scene, leaving the victim behind. Despite attempting to get help, the injured man collapsed and succumbed to heavy bleeding.
Police located Singh in Mapusa the following day and arrested him after a brief chase. The case is under investigation.
