PARRA: Mapusa Police have arrested a father and son accused of murdering their co-worker in what investigators describe as a brutal act of revenge for an earlier assault.
According to police, the motive for the killing was rooted in a violent argument the previous day. On Sunday, the victim, Daropada Naik, allegedly assaulted Satya Nabarabgpuria near the Mapusa bus stand. Police said Satya felt deeply humiliated by the beating and recounted the incident to his son, Thabir, later at the construction site where they lived and worked together with the victim.
Determined to take revenge, Satya and Thabir allegedly hatched a plan. On Monday, while the three men were drinking together in a temporary shelter at the construction site, the argument over the previous assault reignited. Police said the confrontation turned violent when the father and son sought to settle the score.
They first tried to strangle Daropada with a waist belt, but when he resisted, Thabir allegedly grabbed an iron crowbar and repeatedly struck the victim on the head. Satya then used a knife to stab Daropada in the stomach and went further by mutilating his body, cutting off his private parts as he lay motionless in a pool of blood.
The killing was discovered by the site supervisor, who found the victim’s body in the shelter. Both accused fled the scene and hid in a nearby field but were tracked down and arrested by police.
Investigators also revealed that both Satya and Thabir have a history of violence, with a previous FIR for bodily offences registered against them at Golamunda Police Station in Odisha in 2020.
Police said the murder was clearly a planned act of revenge, turning a personal grudge over the earlier assault into a gruesome killing. Further investigation is ongoing.
