MARGAO: Goa Forward Party (GFP) President and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai today said that he regrets his statement against the Speaker, but at the same time, there should be a valid reason for the curtailment of the assembly session.
“There should be a valid reason for curtailment; if the ST community feels upset over my statements against Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, then I totally regret my statements,” said Vijai.
He further said that the ST community has always supported him in all ways and respects their sentiments.
“As said by Speaker, the government decides the length of the session; the speaker can add the private member day,” Vijai said.
Vijai also said that he is ready to apologise to the Speaker unless the session is extended to 15 days.
Sardesai said that in the history of the Goa Assembly, this is for the first time that Private Members Day is cut-off from the session.
“This decision is unprecedented in democracy. The government is basically scared of opposition,” he said.
Sardesai recalled that even the monsoon session held in July was curtailed to 10 days from 25 days.
Sardesai said that Governor, as guardian of the House, has assured that he will intervene to end the situation created by the arbitrary and unjustifiable decisions of the Speaker, who deems to be unduly influenced by the ruling party.
