New Delhi: In a powerful rebuttal at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India firmly rejected Pakistan’s attempts to malign its image and instead exposed Islamabad’s own record of terrorism sponsorship and human rights violations, especially against children.
India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, delivered a scathing response during the UNSC’s open debate on Children and Armed Conflict (CAC). He accused Pakistan of misusing the UN platform to deflect attention from its own grave abuses, both at home and across its borders.
“Pakistan is casting unwarranted aspersions over UN processes and smearing India in various discussions as part of its nefarious agenda. We reject these baseless allegations. This is a blatant attempt to divert attention from the atrocities committed against children within Pakistan,” said Ambassador Harish.
He pointed out that the Secretary-General’s own report had cited Pakistan for severe child rights violations, including attacks on schools—particularly girls’ schools—and on health workers. Harish also highlighted cross-border shelling by the Pakistani army that has caused civilian casualties, including the killing and maiming of Afghan children in the border regions.
Calling out Pakistan as a “grave violator of the Children and Armed Conflict agenda,” the Indian envoy underscored the hypocrisy of Islamabad preaching at international platforms while its military actions continue to harm children and civilians.
Ambassador Harish also invoked the recent April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 Indian tourists were killed. The attack was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), a known proxy of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.
“The world has not forgotten the savage and targeted attacks by Pakistani and Pakistan-trained terrorists. The April 25 press statement by this Council rightly stressed the need to hold perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors accountable,” he stated.
He further referenced India’s measured but firm military response under Operation Sindoor on May 7, during which nine terrorist infrastructure sites were struck in a targeted counter-terrorism operation.
“These strikes were non-escalatory, proportionate, and focused. Notably, those killed were given state funerals in Pakistan, once again exposing the close links between the state and terror outfits,” Harish added, reinforcing India’s long-standing accusation of Pakistan’s institutional support to terrorism.
The Indian envoy also condemned the May 2025 shelling of Indian villages by the Pakistani army, which led to civilian deaths and injuries. “To stand here and preach to this body after such acts is not only hypocritical but deeply offensive to the principles of the UN Charter,” he said.
Concluding his statement, Ambassador Harish reiterated India’s unambiguous position on Jammu and Kashmir. “The entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. No amount of misinformation or propaganda can change this reality,” he declared.
India’s forceful pushback at the UNSC marks another chapter in its firm diplomatic stance against Pakistan’s attempts to internationalise Kashmir and deflect from its role in fostering cross-border terrorism and systemic child rights abuses.
