PANAJI: Four people have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) for allegedly participating in the widespread theft of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF).
On December 12, the accused—Maiduddin Shaikh of Bijapur, Manthes Pawar, Mahendar Passi, and Vithal Chavan, all from Vasco—were taken into custody. Meanwhile, the identities of other unidentified individuals, including unidentified public employees of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), are being investigated by ACB-CBI detectives.
The case has been filed under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Prevention of Corruption Act, including criminal conspiracy, cheating, theft of public property, criminal breach of trust by private individuals, and criminal misconduct, according to information obtained by The Goan.
On December 12, the CBI’s ACB in Goa carried out a Joint Surprise Check in response to particular source information, and it was during this check that extensive ATF theft was discovered. During the operation, the four accused were taken into custody. According to preliminary findings, a cognizable offense was committed. We are looking into the case more,” it stated.
