Goemkarponn desk PORVORIM: The State government has acknowledged that license holders have occasionally misused firearms, but it has not documented any instances of theft or misuse by other parties. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant responded to an unstarred question from Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira by stating that 3,473 people in the State have registered firearms licenses, of which 1,887 are in North Goa and 1,586 in South Goa. These licenses are mostly granted for sports, self-defence, and crop protection. The government, however, refused to provide the license holders’ personal information, citing privacy, security, and safety concerns.
