Over a 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am today, an impressive 133.6 mm of rain was recorded, not only erasing the rainfall deficit but also pushing Goa into a surplus of 5.8 percent rainfall. The court was hearing the petition filed by prisoners housed at Colvale jail alleging mistreatment and assault by the prison authorities. The weather department has predicted inundation of houses in low-lying areas, fall of weak trees and structures, localised and short-term disruption of essential services, and low visibility during intense rain spells.
