QUEPEM: In a coordinated enforcement action, authorities today dismantled an illegal sand extraction operation carried out by Ocean Due Fisheries Pvt. Ltd. in the Zuari River, officials confirmed.
A joint raid involving the Quepem Mamlatdar, Department of Mines and Curchorem Police led to the seizure and destruction of equipment used in the unauthorized dredging.
The Captain of Ports took swift action by*destroying a sealed suction pump, seizing the boat involved, and dismantling the dredging pipelines.
The illegal activity had reportedly caused environmental concern in the region. Officials noted that the removal of the equipment would allow the sandbed in the Zuari River to naturally restore within a few days.
