PANAJI: North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal has urged beach shack owners to inform the police right away if there are any attacks on domestic visitors at their establishments and to avoid taking matters into their own hands.
About fifty shack owners from the Calangute-Candolim belt attended a meeting at the Porvorim Police Station on Friday night where the command was given.
The purpose of the roughly 40-minute meeting was to discuss the growing number of violent altercations between shack employees and visitors.
At first, SP Kaushal had told shack owners to shut down at 12 am in an effort to cut down on late-night fights.
Further talks on possible causes for the assaults were sparked at the meeting when Kaushal asked why these attacks were primarily taking place in the Calangute-Candolim area and not in other parts of Goa.
Details of the SP’s directives were supplied by a shack operator who asked to remain anonymous. The operator emphasized that Kaushal emphasized the significance of avoiding using force against tourists, including those who might become intoxicated.
The SP advised operators to show consideration for visitors and to contact the police right away if there are any problems.
Kaushal emphasized, “Avoid taking the law into your own hands, especially when dealing with drunk or unruly tourists.”
