VASCO: In a bid to boost tourism and provide more employment opportunities for locals, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar announced a complete revamp of Baina Beach. Speaking to reporters after a Swachhata drive organized to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Amonkar outlined the various initiatives planned for the beach.
The MLA revealed that aesthetic beautification will soon transform Baina Beach. “We have a lot of plans for Baina Beach, and I have submitted several proposals to the government and raised them in the Assembly,” Amonkar said. He emphasized that the renovation would significantly enhance the tourism potential of the area and added that this initiative was expected to breathe new life into Baina Beach, turning it into a vibrant tourism hub while preserving its traditional heritage.
“We’ve already begun laying pavers, and work on the beach access road will start shortly. The beach will also be well-illuminated to ensure safety and convenience for visitors,” Amonkar noted. Additionally, he mentioned that the long-standing parking issue faced by traditional fishermen will be addressed. “Our goal is to change the entire face of the beach, making it a prime destination for tourists, which will generate employment for the local community,” he added.
Amonkar also spoke about the Swachhata drive, part of a nationwide program from September 17 to October 2 to celebrate the Prime Minister’s birthday. “We will continue to organize beach cleaning drives, medical camps, and blood donation camps during this period,” he said. He expressed gratitude to the volunteers who participated in the cleanup, especially after the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, as Baina Beach is the site of most Ganesh Visarjan ceremonies in the constituency.
