VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, along with Ward Councillor Deepak Naik and Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker, conducted a joint inspection of the ongoing construction work of the Baina Power House project on Tuesday morning.
Speaking to the media, MLA Salkar emphasized the significance of the project as a revenue-generating initiative for the MMC. “The construction is progressing well, with foundation works nearly complete and expected to be finalized by January-end. Following this, we plan to add a slab every two months, aiming for full completion by March 2026,” he said.
The Rs 18-crore project, sanctioned with the Chief Minister’s approval, will include commercial halls, offices, shops, a restaurant, and more, enhancing the financial stability of the MMC. “This project will not only strengthen the MMC financially but also enable timely salary disbursements and allow for the recruitment of more staff. Additionally, the relocation of earlier stalls to this building and the addition of frontage shops will provide sustainable growth for Baina, an area that was previously neglected,” Salkar added.
Salkar also announced plans for other development projects in Baina, including
Redevelopment of Baina Garden which was only awaiting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Navy, Renovation of Baina Fish Market funded under MLALAD , Improvements to Roads and Drainage Systems which was aimed at giving the area a complete facelift.
“Baina is poised for transformation with these projects, which will significantly increase its value and uplift its infrastructure,” Salkar remarked.
Salkar highlighted the broader development efforts underway in Vasco. “The city had not seen any significant development in the past 40 years. We are now initiating projects like underground cabling, new water pipelines, and footpath repairs, even though they have caused temporary inconveniences,” he said.
Apologizing to residents for the disruptions caused by road digging, Salkar assured that contractors had been directed to expedite their work. “Once the underground cabling is completed, we will repair footpaths and roads, further beautifying Vasco,” he explained.
Among the upcoming initiatives, Salkar announced the inauguration of the long-pending new fish market complex, followed by the commencement of the Chief Officer’s Bungalow project and other vital city projects.
“These efforts are part of our vision to rebuild Vasco and provide modern infrastructure for its residents,” Salkar concluded.
