BAINA: A 19-year-old student from Baina allegedly ended her life on Wednesday evening after she was reportedly denied permission by her college to appear for board examinations.
According to her parents, the student was preparing for the exams but was not allowed to sit for them, which came as a severe shock to her. Neighbours and family members claimed the institution was concerned that her low marks could affect its overall performance and exam results.
The family further alleged that they were pressured into signing certain documents related to the issue, a development that reportedly left the student mentally distressed and withdrawn.
The incident has sparked anger among local residents, who questioned whether an institution’s reputation and academic statistics were being placed above the wellbeing and future of students.
Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and conducted a preliminary inquiry. The body was sent for medico-legal formalities, and statements of the parents and others concerned are being recorded. Further action will be taken after examining all relevant documents and circumstances surrounding the incident.
The tragedy has once again drawn attention to academic pressure and mental health challenges faced by students, with residents demanding a thorough investigation and accountability.
