PANAJI: The District Magistrate of North Goa has imposed a penalty of ₹10,000 on Shri Nitin Gowda, proprietor of M/s Bangalore Bakery, located at Shop No. 01, Kirlawada, Chimbel, Tiswadi, for selling substandard ‘Mix Shev’ found to contain unauthorised synthetic food colours.
The food sample, collected and tested by officials from the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), was found to contain Tartrazine and Carmoisine, synthetic colours not permitted under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Additives) Regulations, 2011.
Following the test results, the District Magistrate (North Goa) ruled that the bakery had violated food safety norms and imposed the fine accordingly.
The case was initiated and pursued by Smt. Nousin S. S. Mulla, Food Safety Officer, Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration, Goa.
Authorities have reiterated that strict action will continue against establishments selling unsafe or substandard food products, and consumers are urged to remain vigilant about food quality and report violations to the FDA.
