ANJUNA: Anjuna Police have registered a criminal case after a woman tourist died following a banana ride accident at Anjuna Beach.
According to police, the offence was registered on March 14, 2026 at 6:53 pm under Crime No. 17/2026 after conducting an enquiry into Anjuna Police Station U.D. No. 22/2026. The case has been registered under Sections 282, 125 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
As per the state complaint filed by PSI Nitesh Baban Shingadi of Anjuna Police Station, the incident occurred on March 11, 2026 at around 5:00 pm at Anjuna Beach, Bardez.
Police said the accused, Domnic Jack D’Souza (55), a resident of Piquen Peddem, Anjuna, allegedly operated boat No. Goa-2572-WS named “Jack Water Sports” illegally without adhering to prescribed safety norms. Six customers were boarded on a banana ride floater connected to the boat.
The boat was operated by Shivaji Damalappa Lamani (36), who allegedly drove the vessel in a rash and negligent manner, endangering human life. During the ride, the banana floater capsized, causing all six customers to fall into the sea.
One of the tourists, Rajni Sunil Indoliya (36), a resident of Morena district in Madhya Pradesh, became unconscious after falling into the water and later died while being taken to hospital.
Anjuna Police have booked both the boat owner and the operator in connection with the incident. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Nitesh B. Shingadi.
