PANAJI: AAP Goa President Amit Palekar today has filed a petition before the High Court of Bombay at Goa challenging Ponda Court’s order cancelling his bail for violating bail conditions in the Banastari accident case.
The hearing in the case has been kept Wednesday.
On Monday, the District and Additional Session Court in Ponda cancelled the bail of Amit Palekar, Goa AAP’s chief advocate in the Banastarim accident case. The arguments in the case were heard last Friday, and the Court’s order was issued on Monday.
On August 21, the Crime Branch filed a motion in court to cancel Adv Amit Palekar’s release in the Banstarim accident case, charging a violation of the bail condition by visiting four countries without court approval.
According to Public Prosecutor Rajaram Desai, in an order dated November 8, 2023, the Court granted Palekar permission merely to visit France.
He had provided details of his departure and arrival, as well as documentation verification, on the grounds that a family vacation had been planned before he was charged in the Banastari accident case, therefore the order must be read literally, allowing Palekar to leave India solely to visit France.
Furthermore, the public prosecutor informed the Court that Palekar had later travelled to four additional countries without first receiving authorization from the Court, thereby breaking his bail condition.
