MAPUSA: The Mapusa police have apprehended a 68-year-old man and his 39-year-old son following allegations of sexual assault against two minor sisters, aged 8 and 10, in Bardez taluka. The victims, who are neighbors of the accused, were reportedly subjected to the abuse last week.
The incident came to light on Wednesday, January 21, after the young girls broke their silence and informed their family about the ordeal. Following their disclosure, the victims’ mother filed a formal complaint, leading to the immediate registration of a First Information Report (FIR) and the recording of the girls’ statements.
According to the police, the suspects intentionally targeted the school-going sisters and are further accused of illegally confining them within their residence. The Mapusa police have charged the father and son under a wide array of stringent legal provisions to ensure a rigorous prosecution.
These include Sections 65(2), 75(2), 79, and 127(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with multiple sections of the POCSO Act (4, 6, 8, 10, and 12), the Goa Children’s Act, and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act. Both suspects are currently in custody as the investigation continues.
