New Delhi: In the world of Indian cricket, anticipation is building as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) prepares to unveil its central contracts. The upcoming announcement will be preceded by a meeting involving key figures such as BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and India head coach Gautam Gambhir. This gathering holds significant importance as it will address the contract status of cricketing giants like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja.
At the heart of the discussion is whether these stalwarts will retain their places in the A+ category of central contracts, the highest echelon. Unlike previous speculations hinting at potential demotions, recent reports suggest that Rohit, Kohli, and Jadeja will continue to be part of this elite group, alongside Jasprit Bumrah. This decision is driven by their ongoing contributions to the Indian team in the ODI and Test formats, despite their retirement from T20 Internationals.
Beyond the A+ category, other notable developments are expected. Shreyas Iyer, who was previously dropped due to non-participation in domestic cricket, is poised to regain his contract in a top category. This follows his impressive performance in the Champions Trophy 2025, where he was India’s top scorer. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan’s inclusion remains uncertain after being dropped last season.
Other players are also in line for significant changes. Axar Patel, known for his versatility in both ODIs and T20Is, may be elevated from Grade B to Grade A. Additionally, newcomers such as Varun Chakravarthy, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Abhishek Sharma are set to receive central contracts, reflecting their growing importance to the team. These moves highlight the BCCI’s strategy to balance experience with fresh talent.
The contractual structure ensures that A+ category players earn a substantial Rs 7 crore annually, while those in Grade A receive Rs 5 crore, Grade B players get Rs 3 crore, and Grade C players earn Rs 1 crore. Yashasvi Jaiswal, with his impressive cross-format performance, could see an upgrade from his current Grade B status. As the cricketing landscape evolves, these contract decisions will play a pivotal role in shaping India’s future cricketing endeavors.
