New Delhi: The BCCI has taken key decisions regarding the senior men’s selection committee, with chairman Ajit Agarkar receiving a contract extension until June 2026. The former India pacer, who took charge in 2023, accepted the extension earlier this year before the start of IPL 2025.
Agarkar’s tenure has been marked by success, with India ending their ICC title drought by winning the 2024 T20 World Cup and adding the 2025 Champions Trophy to their cabinet. The team also reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup and successfully transitioned in Test cricket following the retirements of Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. Under new captain Shubman Gill, India managed to draw a five-match Test series in England, signaling a new era.
“Under his tenure the Indian team had won titles and seen a smooth transition in both Tests and T20s. The BCCI extended his contract till June 2026, and he accepted the offer months back,” a senior board official confirmed.
While the BCCI is largely satisfied with the current five-member selection committee—Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and S Sharath—one change is on the cards. S Sharath, who was promoted from the junior panel in January 2023, is expected to be replaced at the board’s Annual General Meeting in September. The future of Das and Banerjee remains uncertain, while Ratra will complete a year in the role next month.
The BCCI will also invite applications for the senior women’s and junior men’s selection committees. The current women’s panel head Neetu David, along with Arati Vaidya and Mithu Mukherjee, is set to complete five years in office—the maximum tenure allowed under board regulations.
