New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken disciplinary action against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Rajat Patidar and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct due to their respective teams’ slow over-rates during a recent league match.
While Cummins was fined ₹12 lakh for SRH’s first offence of the season under the minimum over-rate regulation, Patidar was fined ₹24 lakh as RCB committed the same offence for the second time this season.
In a statement, the IPL confirmed:
“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Patidar was fined ₹24 lakh. The rest of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their individual match fee, whichever is lesser.”
For Cummins, the statement noted:
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, Cummins was fined ₹12 lakh.”
The incident occurred during Friday’s high-scoring clash, where SRH handed RCB a crushing 42-run defeat at the Ekana Stadium. Despite having already secured a playoff berth, RCB’s loss dealt a blow to their hopes of finishing in the top two of the league standings.
Chasing a daunting 232-run target—set up by a blistering unbeaten 94 off 48 balls from Ishan Kishan—RCB’s response fell short as they were bowled out for 189. Contributions from Phil Salt (62 off 32), Virat Kohli (43 off 25), and Jitesh Sharma (24 off 15) weren’t enough to prevent their first away defeat of the season.
With this loss, RCB dropped to third in the points table with 17 points, behind Gujarat Titans (18) and Punjab Kings (17), also suffering a significant dent to their Net Run Rate (NRR).
