MORMUGAO: SIDCGL Chairman and Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Tuesday morning launched the beautification and illumination works of the Laxminarayan Temple at Headland Sada, a long-pending demand of local residents. Councillor Shraddha Amonkar, temple committee members and locals were present for the commencement of the works taken up through the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC).
Speaking at the launch, Amonkar said he had instructed the contractor to carry out the work on a war footing to ensure timely completion. He stressed that the Laxminarayan Temple holds deep historical and cultural significance for the people of Sada, being one of the oldest temples in the area and a place frequented not only by residents but also by devotees from across the taluka and Goa.
Amonkar recalled that soon after being elected as MLA, he met the temple committee and identified several pending issues that required immediate attention. He said the temple hosts numerous cultural and religious events throughout the year, often requiring people to stand in the open area due to lack of shelter and infrastructure.
“To address this, we decided to install a shade over the open space and pave the ground. The beautification and illumination works have been taken up under GTDC, and we will also undertake painting of the temple structure and construct an arch at the entrance,” Amonkar said.
He added that full lighting and aesthetic illumination will be provided to enhance the temple’s appearance, along with works on the pending stage area within the premises.
Amonkar assured that all works will be expedited and completed before the upcoming temple anniversary in January, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people of Sada.
