CANACONA: Though the new tourism season is yet to pickup, even as we in mid of December months, the menace of beggars, peddlers and touts has considerably risen as authorities silently allows it growth unchecked especially at the two main beaches of world famous Palolem beach and the often tagged as TripAdvisor’s ranked worlds favorite holiday destination at Agonda beach.
Patnem, Rajbag, different khola beach-coves. Talpona-Galgibaga and Polem being other top visited destinations, peddlers and touts operating non-permitted waters activities has worsened the situation or the authorities concerned.
People and particularly domestic tourists alleges unending harassments by illegally operating water-sports especially kayaking at different points along the Canacona coast. And to make the matter worst, peddlers add-up to the misery alongwith the alms-seeking outstation visitors (Beggars) causing undue harassments to the peace seeking tourists.
The beach at Palolem known as a world famous tourists destination gets its visitors coming from all over the world which are however, heavily outnumbered by domestic tourists coming to Palolem.
It is true that due to these tourists, the revenue of the country, Goa and particularly of Canacona is increasing. However, tourists coming to the beach are being harassed by beggars and peddlers is not a good sign, and and due to this they go to tourist places like Sindhudurg, Hampi.
Present councillor and Ex- CMC Chairperson Simon Rebello, who during previous reign as Chairperson has successfully put an end to the beggars and lamani menace now again demands that the police should take action and avoid the undue harassment of tourists , not only at Palolem-Ourem beach stretchy or Municipal coasts, but also all over the taluka.
‘Stop the tourists harrassments don’t allow the peddlers and touts and particularly beggars from roaming on the coasts, people who have invested in crores suffers. The Canacona police should take action against the beggars and peddlers loitering on the beach’, the former Chairperson and Councilor Canacona municipality Ramakant Naik Gaonkar has demanded.
Meanwhile, according t sources, trains coning from Margao brings these beggars and peddlers to Palolem beach almost on every day, and some returns for the night, while many make their stay on coastal sand itself.
