BELAGAVI: The Excise department officials seized liquor worth Rs 44 which was being smuggled to Telangana from Goa. Liquor was reportedly being smuggled to Telangana to distribute to people during upcoming Assembly elections, TV9 Kannada reported.
Manjunath, the excise inspector, and his team conducted an operation and seized 250 cases of 21 different branded alcohol bottles and a vehicle in which the liquor was being smuggled.
The excise officials informed that goods worth Rs 63 lakh including a Rs 20 worth of vehicle were seized during the operation.
Alcohol bottles were concealed inside cartons of scrap materials. The excise officials conducted search operations on the vehicle after receiving information regarding it from their sources, Tv9 Kannada reported. The driver of the vehicle fled after it was stopped near Piranwadi in Belagavi District for inspection.
