MAPUSA:
In a dramatic turn of events that unfolded on Monday at the Colvale Central Jail in Goa, Suchana Seth—a Bengaluru-based CEO under trial for the alleged murder of her four-year-old son last year—has been accused of assaulting a woman police constable. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Indian prisons as they deal with volatile inmates.
Seth, who is awaiting trial, allegedly triggered the confrontation by taking the inward register from the women’s section of the jail without permission. When confronted by the constable, Seth allegedly used abusive language and physically assaulted her, causing injuries.
The background to this case is complex. Seth was arrested in January 2024 after a taxi driver reported her suspicious behavior. Upon investigation, police found the body of her son in a bag she was carrying, leading to charges of murder and destruction of evidence. The case drew widespread attention, particularly due to the custody battle Seth was engaged in with her estranged husband. Goa Police have filed a 640-page chargesheet in connection with the murder, featuring statements from 59 witnesses.
Seth remains in judicial custody as the trial continues. Her actions inside the prison further complicate her legal situation, as she now faces additional charges related to assaulting a public servant.
